Nello studio si dice anche Banks should not just be looking at cutting, cutting, cutting but applying a more strategic IT approach to overcome today’s challenges of optimising business processes".

"Next month is our annual customer/partner conference, “Driven.” We knew that times are tough so back in December we surveyed our customers to see what their chances of attending the event were. At that time 75% told us attending would be a possibility. As we haven gotten closer, however, we’ve started getting a bunch of feedback that many companies are now on travel restrictions (read: no travel).

As a result, today we made the decision to change our format to meet the need and are taking the conference online. While we will lose out on the personal interaction that is a big part of Driven we have already heard from a ton of customers this afternoon that this new format will allow more people at their company to participate and get educated on BPM."

dal blog Process for enterprise

"Overall, it looks like Lombardi grew faster than the software market in general, which is consistent with the results from other BPM vendors (reading between the lines of course, since actual numbers aren’t reported by the firms that are still private). The good news is that the BPM market overall appears to be relatively healthy. 47% Growth in software licensing is robust, and Lombardi has several other statistics to tout."

  • “You’ll need to come back when Sally’s here, she’s the only one that handles that.”
  • “That’s the way we’ve always done it”
  • “They don’t do things “our way”
  • “That’s not my job”
  • “They just sent me to see you, now your sending me back?”
  • “Why are you making this so hard?”
  • “You’ll need to go back to the _______ to get a signature”
  • “I didn’t need this the last time I submitted…”
  • “That department does it differently”
  • “Well, whoever told you that was wrong, this is the right way.”

Process Intelligence

  • To increase customer satisfaction, quality, and margins
  • To lower the cost of compliance activities and improve the reliability of such activities
  • To reduce and prevent risk
In ottica BPM aggiungerei:
  • To develop new application in faster way
  • To new orchestration of exiting application in order to adapt the processes the new problems

Lombardi Blueprint Bridges Gap Between Process Discovery And Execution
Austin-based Lombardi Software’s latest offering, Blueprint, positions the vendor to extend its leadership in human-centric business process management (BPM) and takes direct aim at Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Visio as the tools of choice for process analysts. Blueprint provides a process modeling and discovery platform that blends collaboration and documentation capabilities into an easy-to-use, low cost, software-as-a-service offering that can be used by beginner to expert process analysts. To stay ahead of the pack, the platform needs to continue extending its collaborative Web 2.0 functionality as other BPM suite vendors play catch-up by introducing similar offerings. Consider Lombardi Blueprint if you need a collaborative and lightweight process discovery tool that is tailored to support geographically dispersed process discovery teams.

BPM wasn’t even on the radar at Nacco Materials Holding Group Inc. when the company began to consider buying a major product lifecycle management (PLM) platform to streamline its product development efforts.
Nacco, a $2.8 billion global company based in Portland, Ore., designsand builds heavy construction equipment. Its main competitor is Toyota Material Handling. But in the wake of a recently completed, troubleplagued, multimillion-dollar SAP AG ERP implementation, the company was gun shy about launching another major IT project. The company’s CEO originally advocated for Agilent Technologies Inc.’s PLM suite because Nacco was already using an Agilent product for data management in some areas of the company. Bob Shallow, director of global product development, was a relative newcomer—20 months—to Nacco, but he had successfully used Lombardi’s Teamworks product at his previous employer, FordMotor Co.
He persuaded Nacco to go with Teamworks, spending about $350,000 on the BPM tool set instead of $3 million or so for a PLM platform. The decision has paid off: Shallow has completed many projects successfully and quickly. The first one—aprocess redesign to automate a small cost authorization system—took just15 days.
Despite this success and others, Shallow has had to face down reluctance and distrust of BPM tools from IT. “They viewed Teamworks as just a workflow modeler. The attitude was, ‘We own the systems. If you want to model it, that’s fine, but we’ll build it and implement it.’ They didn’t realize how powerful it is,” he says. That attitude changed fairly quickly when IT resources started to get a bit stretched, he adds. “They started to say, ‘You guys take it as far as you can and then call us when you need us,’” he says.
The relationship with IT has gotten much better, Shallow notes. “They see that the tool set is very strategic and very powerful. The IT director was originally not a fan,” he says.

Le banche hanno bisogno del BPM

London, January 16, 2009 -- The Financial Service Authority (FSA) called this week for banks to invest in their IT systems as part of its proposals to beef up the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, which insures customer savings in the event of a financial collapse, and made the following recommendations:
• Simplifying eligibility for deposit compensation to include all private individuals and small entities.
• Gross payout, which would ignore any debts the depositor has with the same firm.
• Ensuring the firm holds up to date information to allow quick processing of claims.
• Ensuring firms provide information on the existence and basic coverage of the FSCS for deposits.
• Requiring firms proactively to tell consumers which trading names are covered by a particular authorisation.

Process

  1. progress, advance
  2. something going on : proceeding
  3. a natural phenomenon marked by gradual changes that lead toward a particular result
  4. a continuing natural or biological activity or function
  5. a series of actions or operations conducing to an end ; especially : a continuous operation or treatment especially in manufacture
Procedure

  1. a particular way of accomplishing something or of acting
  2. a series of steps followed in a regular definite order
  3. a set of instructions for a computer that has a name by which it can be called into action
  4. a traditional or established way of doing things
"Personally I quite like the idea that Process is very much talking about "What we do" as opposed to Procedure talking about "How we do it"

Kaizen e BPM

"One of the three (Ford) is in demonstrably better shape than the other two, and it's no mystery why".

""....After all of this analysis, your vendor list will hopefully get down to two or three players. Now comes the most critical point of the vendor evaluation: the proof of concept! I recommend a one day on-site POC for each finalist. Give each vendor a week to prepare but not much more. Create a scenario that would be a stretch to complete in a day. Give them a set of use cases to be modeled and require them to integrate with a few of your test services to display some of your data in the POC. Make them start from scratch while you watch. This is the point where the Power Point magic ends and the truth is told. .....""""

Ecco riportato integralmente l'articolo:

"""Companies are right to be cautious about employing software to solve process problems. Automating a broken process simply serves to make it more efficiently broken. However, documenting processes is the first – and in my opinion, the most important – step in the improvement cycle. When Lombardi recently offered to demonstrate Blueprint, their web-based documentation and collaboration product, I approached the demonstration as a business professional with processes that need improvement, rather than an IT analyst or industry expert. Criteria for evaluation were ease of use, a short learning curve, and good collaboration features.

Ease of Use

Anyone who works with PowerPoint, Word, or Visio will find Blueprint intuitive. Input process steps in visual or text format in one of four views: process map - a high-level visualization, used as a quick process overview; workflow diagram – a swimlane view, including exception and execution detail; documentation – details in Word format; analysis - used to spot
opportunities. Each view automatically updates the others.

Short Learning Curve

The mechanics are simple to understand. People have different ways of expressing what they do and how they do it, so a choice of visual or text input fosters collaboration. A drag and drop capability allows for movement to a different milestone or swimlane. Business users not familiar with process modeling conventions need not concern themselves with anything except describing the process steps as they know them, and drafts are easy to modify.

Collaboration Friendly

Multiple users can view a process simultaneously, and see updates as they happen. The process owner accepts or rejects changes, or reverts to a previous version. Version control is automatic whenever a user saves a process change. This ensures change control and audit trails. An Instant Messaging (IM) feature allows for on-line conversations during collaboration. Blueprint has all the advantages of a sticky-note session with none of the transcribing.

How To

Starting at a high level, enter process “milestones”, a term intended to imply a broad-brush look at the process at the enterprise level. As with other levels, type these in an outline level, or use drag and drop icons – whichever is more comfortable for the user. Milestones do not have owners as process steps do, but there is a place for a process owner.
Each of the milestones then opens to allow creation of unlimited levels of sub steps. At any level, the program allows the entry of the process step participants, owner, subject matter experts, inputs, outputs, and known problems.

Features

Impact Analysis: Known problems in a process step – e.g., a seasonal bottleneck or parts not being available – are described, then given severity (high, medium, low) and frequency (high, medium, low) ratings. The analysis view presents these issues in a list with impact scores. This view makes it easy to see which processes need quick attention.
Embedded Documentation: Each step has a page for related documentation. The process documentation steps can contain direct links to training aides, escalation lists, or instructions on how to handle exceptions – anything that the business finds useful.
Documentation View: This provides a comprehensive view of process details. The owners, inputs, outputs, problems, and impact scores all appear in a single list. This view is exportable to a variety of programs, including Lombardi’s BPM suite, Teamworks.
Projects: Blueprint’s concept wraps one or more processes into projects. These projects carry a high-level description, budget, owner, charter, scope, and goals. The user assigns a weight to each goal. This ensures that processes are consistent with the company’s strategic direction. All information is exportable to PowerPoint, making presentations on the current state of the business easy.
Reusable Elements: It is simple to copy processes, or create a library of common process steps – approvals, budget cycles, etc – for use in future processes.

The Specs

Lombardi hosts Blueprint on secure servers, available only as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). It is exportable to Lombardi’s process execution application Teamworks using Business Process Definition Metamodel (BPDM), the OMG standard. Each user pays a $50/month subscription fee. Subscription is instant. A free 30-day trial is available for the unlimited version, or a free subscription with limited capabilities can get you started. Lombardi updates this package every 5-6 weeks, based on user feedback, so not having it installed on site is an advantage for those that want new features deployed quickly and without overhead.

My Take
Overall, business users will find the application intuitive, easy to use, and helpful. For those still using an unstructured graphical program, or trying to describe their processes in text form, this tool has advantages over both. Depending on the number of users in the organization, cost might prove to be a barrier; however, factoring in productivity gains and licenses for alternate documentation tools, companies trying to get a handle on their process will find this tool worth the price."""""

I vantaggi "verdi" del BPM

Una delle aree che sembra maggiormente interessare oggi l' IT è va sotto la definizione di "green IT".
